BEHIND THE WORDS

Growing up, I told stories through D&D, drawing, painting, sculpting, and more.

As a Ph.D. student, and then as a professor at Stanford, I studied geophysics and wrote technical papers about the Earth.

As an entrepreneur, I learned how to write with empathy and to cater my words to an audience.

When I became chronically ill in 2018, I began writing science fiction as an outlet for my creativity and as an escape from my body.

COLORADO LIFE

At Its Best

When my health permits, I love venturing into the wilderness of Colorado. There is something about nature that grounds me and propels my mind into an imaginative state.

Sharing these experiences with my family makes it all the sweeter.

INSPIRED BY LIFE

I write a piece of me into every story. I have lived through more experiences than a man has a right to. All of these opportunities to travel, learn, and persevere give my life and writing a unique flair.

RESEARCH

Antarctica

I spent six months in Antarctica on a research project to record earthquakes from around the globe. From this experiment, we learned how the majestic Transantarctic Mountains formed.

Earthquakes

Most of my research focused on learning about the interior of the Earth, like a CT scan, but using earthquakes. I also co-developed a volunteer earthquake network with computers, phones, and other devices.

YOUTH

In The Redwoods

I grew up with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Surrounded by the peaceful setting of a redwood forest, I enjoyed long periods of time with nothing but my imagination. Reading, D&D, and nature. What could be better?
