Let me be clear from the outset—I'm not here to elicit sympathy. Instead, I invite you into my personal experience and the impetus that led me to write tales about nanites and their incredible potential. My chronic illness, specifically Dysautonomia, became the catalyst for exploring the microscopic wonders that could hold the key to healing.
ABOUT DYSAUTONOMIA
Perhaps it would be good to tell you what dysautonomia is. It’s unfamiliar to many. At its simplest, my nervous system can’t regulate itself. For me, it stems from an autoimmune condition that attacks my nerve cells, sending static that my brain and body can’t interpret, sending me into wild swings.
Imagine if you couldn’t regulate your heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, or body temperature. Picture standing up, and the world goes dim as blood pools away from the brain, leading to dizziness and fainting. Envision the constant fatigue, brain fog, and the unpredictable dance of symptoms that characterize each day. That's the world of Dysautonomia.
MAGICAL CURE
The desire for health is a universal human experience, but for those grappling with invisible illnesses, it becomes a relentless pursuit. My sickness ignited a fervent longing for a remedy. Enter nanites—tiny, futuristic marvels that captured my imagination and offered a glimmer of hope for the future.
WHAT’S A NANITE?
In the realm of science fiction and potential future realities, nanites are microscopic machines, smaller than a cell, with the potential to revolutionize medicine. Picture them as tiny, intelligent robots navigating the intricate landscape of the human body, repairing, rejuvenating, and, in my dreams, offering a cure for ailments like Dysautonomia.
CENTRAL THEME
In my narratives, nanites become agents of transformation. In I NANO, nanites don’t just heal people, they mutate to give people superpowers. My body is a sort of anti-hero. I call myself Random Symptom Man because almost any symptom can arise. In DAY AFTER INFINITY, nanites heal someone so fast that the main character almost can’t die, so he’s sent into the worst situations that others can’t survive. Despite being ultra-healthy, he finds himself tortured as much as me.
CATHARSIS
In the face of chronic illness, I count myself very fortunate. The ability to put fingers to keyboard is a cathartic gift. Writing about nanites and their healing prowess is not just a flight of fancy; it's a therapeutic endeavor that allows me to channel my frustrations and aspirations into a narrative of hope.
Writing offers me an escape from daily struggles, a sanctuary where I can shape worlds and possibilities. It's a space where the limitations imposed by my health fade away, and the boundless realm of imagination takes center stage. The act of creation becomes a healing process, soothing the ache of unfulfilled dreams and the yearning for a healthier tomorrow.
GRATITUDE
While Dysautonomia has altered the course of my life, it has also brought unexpected gifts. It granted me the perspective to appreciate the small victories, the resilience to weather the storm, and the gratitude for the moments of reprieve. With the support of my friends and family, I have a very fortunate life. What can I ask for? I have love, a roof over your head, quality food, and a mental companion of words.
So here I am, navigating the unpredictable landscape of chronic illness, fueled by the hope that nanites, both in my stories and potentially in the future, could offer a path to healing.
As always, I appreciate your support of indie authors. In the name of putting myself out there, here are a few of my works.
